Sonny, I just installed new injectors on a 73 square. Both the old ones and the new ones did not look like the picture in the Bentley manual. The needles were recessed, but could be opened with a fingernail when the system was pressurized. I would check them by hooking up your fuels system, and pressurizing everything using the wire in the back of the car (see bentley manual for this) or by just switching on the ignition a few time and running back to the engine compartment. I've detected leaks using this method by carefully wiping all excess fuel from the injector tips and then switching the ignition on and off about 3-4 times. This allows full operating pressure to build in the fuel ring. Next, run back to the engine compartment and check the injections for fuel at the tips. You can also press the needles in with your fingernail to make sure there is fuel in the works. Good luck Erik 71 campmobile 73 square -----Original Message----- From: Sonny8oy [SMTP:Sonny8oy@aol.com] Sent: Tuesday, May 19, 1998 8:51 PM To: type3@vwtype3.org Subject: fuel injector questions should the 'needles' really be sticking out of the injectors as shown in Bentley? mine don't on the one side that i've taken out (had a burst fuel hose on this side and after trimming it and whatnot, it's been running like crap). i think some stuff maybe got in there and blocked them? but on looking in, there doesn't seem to be anything blocking them. can air be blown through them to clean them, or am i destined to run on two and two half cylinders for a while? fuel injector cleaner (techron) hasn't really done anything to help) thanks guys sonny
