Modifications to the engine aren't necessary. Go to my web page and you can see how I had my filter (http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/8501/bumper.jpg). I have since made a very simple bracket that the filter will attach to. Once I get the drive train assembled I'll have pictures to further illustrate. Basically I have a plate that bolts to the left bumper mounting. A piece of metal is welded in the middle of it perpendicularly, so it looks similar to the letter 'T', and the filter mount bolts to the end. It's angled so it places the filter up against the bottom of the air intake plenum, left of the opening where the accordion boot fits. I still have the filter in a vertical position with the opening of the filter facing up. Makes for an easy and clean filter change.
