Someone called this in to me and I thought I'd share it with you: 1971 Type 3 Squareback, in primer, ready for paint, 3 year old engine rebuild, selling because tranny is making noise and owner (not knowing VW automatics) has been convinced to sell it and get a ... honda ( ... shudddder... ). Here is the description of the problem, maybe someone can suggest what to do and keep a T-3 on the road. The owner really does like the car, the non-VW mechanic is telling them to dump it. Engine runs fine. Placing the gear selector in Reverse, moves fine. Selector in Neutral, fine. Selector in Drive, noises start and car strains to move. Place selector in R or N or P, back to fine. Any guesses? Owner has no email, email the list or me privately and I'll contact owner. If you have an interest in purchasing it, same as above. Car is in downtown Houston.
