When re-assembling the brakes, we would apply what is then called 'rubber grease' on the piston seals before popping them back into the wheel cylinders. I believe this is the same as the 'VW cylinder paste'. It helps keep the seals 'moist' and prevents it from drying out and cracking over time with use. It also helps lubricate the seals and eases the process of popping the tight seals back into the cylinders. Hope this helps! Its name is PARKER O-Lube. This stuff is very slimey and it adheres to seals and orings to prevent leaks and extend life. If your interested I will try to find you a vendor you can buy it from on the street.
