All, My wife reported a "red light on" in the '71 today--all of a sudden & a smell of burning. She was able to drive 10 or 15 miles (then she was home for the day). I had a bit of time to run out & have a look at it... quick swap of the voltage regulator with a known-"o.k." (not great) regulator didn't help. Tested voltage at D+ and DF at the generator: 0.4 Volts. Shoudn't this be >12 with the car running? Or could a faulty regulator (or other bits) cause such a low reading at the generator? (Oh--pushing on the brushes while it was running didn't show any sparks, as Muir suggested--sunny day, though.) -Greg '69 & '71 Squarebacks '63 Beetle
