I, and other racers in the UK use the Telfon buttons, and have had no problems, although I'll admit I ran with the standard wire keepers for several years with no problems, even using a standard non counterweighted crank upto 7200rpm. When I rebuilt the engine the last time I though I would take the precaution of using these, just in case the wire keepers snapped. (I realise @ 7000 rpm the crank may be flexing slightly!!) I know of no actual downside to them, maybe they deteriorate with age, but as my engine is low mileage, and gets rebuilt every 1 - 2 years I see no problems. Berg seems to recommend replacing the wire wrist pin keepers with internal snap rings, for all the reasons Jim said. Nic Webb 71 Fastback ( back on the road / Track this spring.)
