Ohmygawd you guys are killing me...I did the conversion and wrote up a document explaining how to do it, with pictures and diagrams even! And it's free!! Sheesh, how easily they forget, My Precious. Go to 'http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/1641/' and at the very top will be my "Generator to Alternator Conversion" file. If you have troubles downloading it then I can email it to you if your email system accepts attachments. You can put a Type I alternator in a Type III, but you will be installing it in backwards AND it will require that you cut into the upper cooling tin. Installing it in backwards is not a problem since an alternator generates regardless of its rotation. Cutting into the cooling tin, of course, isn't the greatest of ideas... Although I have heard of people fitting a Type 1 Alternator to a T-3 Motor before, I just don't know what is involved. Anyone on the list know??? Big Al "classifieds@vwtype3.org"
