The OE VW cranks have some kind of surface hardening that is still there if you only go to the first undersize. Still, std is better, and I have not had any trouble coming up with good std/std cranks for Berg to add the counterweights to. Since the price is virtually the same that's the only thing I will do in the future. On Berg's CW exchange crank (which I think is a GB 188A,) you must have an exchange that will clean up to .010/.010. They won't take or sell cranks worse than that. The advantage of the std/std crank is a little better strength, a little harder journals, and the option to have it reground later if you need to.
