This was a really good post with lots of well thought out advice.
The only thing I can add is that I have not had any trouble with a
rear mount cross bar which has been clearanced for the Berg relief
cover. My engine has been this way for about 5 years, I don't baby
the car, but I don't off-road it either. I share the desire not to
excessively weaken perfectly good parts, but there is lots of beef in
the cross bar and this is just a carefull milled hole in the middle.

I have been interested in the Oberg filter, but just stuck to the
Fram because of the expense and what appeared to be a lack of
mounting provisions for the Oberg. How do people mount the Oberg?
