Of course it is nice to be able to see exactly what you are doing, but if you have a pretty good idea of what the parts look like, you can do this adjustment by removing only the small plate with the 2 holes in it that fits over the # 1 & 2 spark plugs. You can get access to a bit more information by removing the plastic double spark plug wire clip that snaps into the rear of the right upper cylinder cover tin. This leaves about a 1cm hole that you can slip a wire through which can serve as your "1-2 mm gauge."
