I've got no idea about '62. My VW factory birth certificate shows whitewall tires, and I have an original spare (no tread) Continental 6.00-15 with 3/4" whitewall. As has been mentioned before, you can purchase a similar 3/4" whitewall RADIAL tire from Cooker. They use an original BF Goodrich mold for this tire, and claim the whitewall is "real" (whatever that means). One of these days I'm buying a set ($70 per).
