Just FYI from the VINTAGVW list...talk to Gilbert at karmann@skyinet.net if you're interested in talking to him about his friend's type 3 ghia parts... -Doug ---------------------- Forwarded by Douglas Brashear/AMS/AMSINC on 12/17/98 10:35 AM --------------------------- Please respond to VintagVW@listproc.sjsu.edu To: vintagvw@listproc.sjsu.edu cc: karmann-ghia@wdr.com (bcc: Douglas Brashear/AMS/AMSINC) Subject: VW weekday and literature find! (*I'm cross-posting this to the KG list. There's some KG info in here.) Hi guys. I was just over at the local VW guru's place and went scavenging through his parts again. Well, just as before I was still in awe over the sheer amount of parts that he's got laying around his place. I wasn't really interested in getting anything, just looking around as I usually do. I was surprised to see shelves upon shelves of Type1 parts many of which I have no idea what they are for. His busted BRM's are still there. He's asking for addresses in the U.S. where he can get them repaired. He was able to find a shop to fix them for him a few months ago but while they were re-mounting the tired back onto them they all cracked again! Ouch! Well, he's asking if anyone here know any specific shops that could do the said repair work. * Boyd, the shop that you mentioned to me before, would you know if they'd do a complete refinishing on the BRM's or if they just do the welding and leave the polishing for us to do? Seems like he wasn't interested in selling them after all. :o( The Deano Dynosoar manifold was still there hanging on the wall, some KG door handles and a couple nice rear bumper sections for Type1 Ghias and surprisingly a few pieces for Type3 Ghia's too. He's got around 4 corner pieces for Type3 Ghia's if anyone's interested. I'm getting his pair of NOS Hella Ghia taillights though. :o) Anyway, I ended buying some NOS manuals and factory warranty booklets. I was wondering if any of you listees would be interested in these. I got 2 Instruction Manuals for 1200 and 1300 Beetles (dated August 1972), a Country Buggy/Sakbayan manual, and a whole stack of "Service Booklets" and "Service Records" pamphlets with the original warranty cards still attached inside them. I only got these few pieces though because I didn't have much cash with me. Mind you he's still got boxes full of NOS manuals so if anyone's interested I can drop by his place anytime to pick up some more. I was like a kid let loose in a toy store! So many rare parts, so little cash! :o( My friend who accompanied me there ended up buying a Church Key for his newly acquired Type2 Kombi. That was neat to see. It's like an oversized Spam key! :o) Whoa, I'm still overwhelmed by all the stuff he's got there..... and to think that a couple years ago his *stash* was more than 5 times the size of what's left in his place. Amazing! :o) ____ _/____\_ (O\___/O) Gilbert Sy Chan []=====[] '72 Super Beetle (daily driver) '60 Karmann Ghia (in the works) '91 Civic Hatchback (mom's car) ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
