That boss comes out of the Auxiliary Air Regulator and a leak in that hose could cause your loping idle problem. Another common problem with that symptom would be a sticking AAR. You really should get a timing light, or a friend with one, and see exactly where your timing is actually set. You might be VERY surprised. Setting your timing without really knowing where you are can be very hard on the engine.
