Type 3 belt is 1000mm x 9.5mm wide. Some places sell 1010 x 10 as the nearest, but it isn't the correct size (works though, as it rides a bit higher). Dave. I've had some slipping belts, but never had one disintegrate. On one engine I had, I had to go to the next larger belt size, the original was too tight. It has to do with how the fan housing sits in relation to the cranksha^箓ow close to original location you come when you reassemble the engine. Not sure what you mean by all spacers out, to loosen the fit, you put spacers IN, between the pulley halves. Lowers the belt path, hence less tight. I use Gates belts, the ones I've gotten from the bug parts places not only cost twice as much, but lasted half as long. Were Italian make. Will look up the Gates number on the belt right now. It's a 7385 Gates Xl, has the cogged underside. Has been in there for at least 3 years with no signs of wear. Any parts place will have a chart with belt lengths, you should be able to get one shorter or longer going from that chart and the above number. On mine, the belt is tight enough to bar the engine around with a wrench on the 21 mm nut on the generator, that's how I move the crank to time and set valve clearance(go 4-3-2-1 if you want to do that). If it slips when when doing that, it's time to take a spacer out. Haven't had to do that lately. On Fri, 4 Dec 1998 21:33:08 EST, you wrote: >Hey folks. This really scared me half to death.
