1971 FI Variant (Deathrich the Sluggard). Plain as buttons Kansas Beige manual. Pan is all original with only pinholes under the battery (sorry rust-belters). One door and the tailgate have been replaced (no idea why, but now I don't have a rear window defroster). The only Darking I plan on is balancing the new mill step cutting the heads to *lower* the compression ratio, and maybe some 'Plum Crazy' paint or something. Don't know. Paint is *way* down the road. I might stick with beige and wait for a Fasty. That's the only VW that I own at the moment, but... '73 T1 'Brilliant Orange' Stock. Hurt. Took me many, many miles, though (like 30K in 15 months). I drove it for 1200 miles with a *really* bad rod, at 30 mph. It's still alive in Mesa, AZ, with a new motor. Some A-hole has painted 'Ouch' on the dent in the front with spray paint, as well as lightning bolts down the side (same spray paint). '72 Super/Sun. Marathon Blue. NJ car. REALLY rusty. Ran well, though. Died in Shamrock, TX in 1991(still there, for all I know). '68 T1, steel sunroof. Lotus White. One of the best. 1776cc dual baby Del's, two step cam, (I forget who made the) header, one of those 3-puck clutches. - Even *I* am slightly Dark. '68 T1, Savannah Beige. Poor dear thing. It'd been dune-buggied, and I de-duned it. I even (somehow) took it to the guy who'd originally cut the nose & tail off, and he kept laughing, so I took it elsewhere. After the resurrection, I painted it Macco white (this was after the cool '68, and I was *BROKE*). '76 Microbus. Auto. BS Brown/White top. Ohmigod what a pile. I owned it when I was like 19, and it had a couple of leaky pushrod tubes, developed a rod knock. Very sad. Non-VW are far, far too many to list. 8 Pontiacs from '59 - '68, 6 or so Fords from '64 - '79; 53 & 64 Mercurys; 57 DeSoto; 51 Hudson; 64 & 66 Plymouths; 68 Chrysler; 65-68 Buicks; and more. Something like 38 cars so far. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much? Digest! mailto:type3-d-request@vwtype3.org Subj=subscribe
