I have never seen a stock air-cooled VW do better than about 87 mph, which is personal experience, and that wasn't a blue-printed and balanced, FI T3. My FI T3, which is admittedly pretty hammered on (a la Deathrich), will *do* 75-80, but it's much happier at 70, and will cruise there all day long (now). I saw an alcohol powered Beetle do a 4.6 sec ลก at about 151mph; but I would be very surprised to see stock machines approaching 100, whatever the condition (unless dropped from a great height). If I'm wrong, I'll gladly eat crow, but I would be hard pressed to believe that they'd be very happy, for any extended period of time, at more than say 80 even with a really well-built motor (and I mean blue-printed). They just weren't designed to rocket along like that. Even if they could, how safe would you feel blasting along, gas tank in lap, on those A-rated 185/15's? -----Original Message----- From: oofacts@earthlink.net [SMTP:oofacts@earthlink.net] Sent: Wednesday, 2 December 1998 9:29 To: type3@vwtype3.org Subject: [T3] How do you go so fast? Not that I want to blaze along at 95, but I keep feeling like my square will barely get above 75, although its quite capable of cruising along at 70 which is fine in general with me. My only feelig is that, if they can do 95 as Jim says, something isnt quite right on my squareback.
