sounds like your pads have worn through, and it's metal on metal.

yep, sounds like the mc.  could also be coming from the front to rear brake
line: check under the carpet, esp. in the front at the driver's feet.

sounds like you need:
+ new pads
+ new (or rebuilt) calipers
+ discs (or if you're lucky, you may get a way with just machining)

and if all these are bad, you'll probably also need flexible front hoses too
(are the two back ones okay.....?).

not very good news.  i had to do all this.  make sure you get decent rebuilt
calipers that allow you to fit the piston retaining plates; i didn't, and the
pads don't wear evenly.
