<< Has anyone ever replaced the vacuum modulator on the AT. If so, and if they did not adjust it, then this could cause abnormal drag at idle. See Bentley. >> i assume this hasn't been changed ever. i do know that the tube that goes from under the air intake distributor to the sump of the AT has oil/ATF in it a bit. sidenote: saw an AT in a junkyard that had an inline fuel filter placed in this line, presumably to prevent this fluid transfer/escape. seems to me this is more corrective than preventative medicine though? <<Not unless you're adding a quart of oil every 50 miles ;-)>> how about a pint every 150 miles? anyhow, i spent 7 hours solid yesterday tearing my hands to pieces. also managed to replace the oil cooler seals at the same time :) what a nightmare getting the cooling tin screws off AND on again. replaced the screws with bolts: seems more sensible to me, yes/no? also replaced the pressure sensor hose. tomorrow will be the full test to see if it's going properly. so far, i've only driven for half an hour at a time around town, and it's been ok (ambient temperature has also been cooler). my theories: + oil pressure light flickering at idle: not enough oil getting to the oil cooler because of the leak (exacerbated because of the idle problem)? + non-idle due to the pressure sensor hose? unfortunately, there still seems to be a few drips of oil below the car after i've stopped (hoping this is just 'run-off'....) conclusion to be posted next week. sonny ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
