RE: [T3] Stuff

Reminds me of a joke that kids used to tell:

How many TV channels are there in the USSR?
2...first channel is military propaganda, second channel shows a propaganda
officer telling you to turn back to the first channel :-)

Personally I think its fine to have multiple VWs even if you don't need
them...if you have enough love to spread around between 2 cars, more power
to you (WARNING: DO NOT attempt this feat with the women in your life! :-)
If you can take care of 2, all the better...this doesn't decrease the need
for parts because how do you know the new owner would buy the part even if
the car needed it? After I bought my square I realized all the things the
PO didn't tell me (CODY PIERCE is a LIAR...if you know this guy, please let
the air out of his tires for me)...but then I realized that it was MY
responsibility to keep the car on the road, which is exactly what I'm
doing. My fastback will be a great car soon (thanks to RJ and others for
their parts generosity) and I'll love both type IIIs equally...and I'll
sell...um...neither of them until I absolutely must!

I'd rather retain both my cars than sell one to someone who wouldn't love
it as much...I sold a 74 super a few months ago to a great guy (who bought
it for his wife, who used to drive almost exactly the same car)...I was
very open with the car's strengths and weaknesses, and would still help the
guy to this date (as opposed to CODY PIERCE who seemingly dropped off the
face of the earth after he sold me the car)...his wife loves it, eventhough
she has to pop the clutch every once in a while...she even asked for a new
floor pan and heather channel for Christmas (brought a tear to my eye when
the guy told me that)!

BTW, RJ, fantastic summary of the 4 facets of VW ownership...that goes in
my mail archive for sure!

Are you implying that we have a mandantory group philosophy??? That
scares me....

I would tend to trace this back a trifle farther that the internet
(although they were both around in the 60s). But to some extent I would
go along with your idea - that whole VW mentality is traditionally not
for profit. The internet has a old and crumbling tradition of free
intellectual property- something that has ALWAYS been free and not for
profit on the list too. (Of course, if Jim wanted to start charging a
penny per answer, I would pay him...)

But the day VW parts and such are run on a not for profit is the day I
stop paying $700 dollars for Ill-fitting rubber.
