Hello all, I am in the process of restoring my 1972 Fastback 1600E (Body split from floor pan, engine and front axle out and off), I have carefully stripped the engine. The heads seem to be in good condition, the barrels on the other hand I am not to sure of, there is the very slightest ridge on the top of them presumably the end of the piston travel? and a small Amount of oil at the bottom of each cylinder (I think this is normal!). My first question is do barrels come with a slight ridge at the top?, if they dont, and I do need to change them, is it possible to fit 1700cc barrels and pistons, this I think would increase the bore on each cylinder by 2.5 mm. Would the stock FI system work ok with this mod or am I best to leave it as 1600cc?. Also if I am stripping the engine to this extent is it worthwhile splitting the crank case and doing con rod and crank shaft bearings?. By the way the engine has done approx 45,000 miles since new. Thanks in advance. Mike Bottomley 1972 1600E Fastback (in boxes) 1972 1600L Variant ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web!
