<< remember, if you want your letter printed, you have to start with: I've been reading your great magazine for 3 years now and it's really great. I submitted an incisive, witty article for publication some years back. Embedded in the article, unfortunately, was a sentence which asked the general readership something like this: "After years of reading the prose found in VW magazines, are you sure that you can adjust to standard English written by literate people?" Uh, guess what? No only was it not published, but I never even received a yes/no/ maybe/drop dead/go to hell reply. What a surprise! At the risk of letting my snobbery show too much, I think that folks who publish nationally distributed magazines should write at least as well as, oh, say, a third grader. In nother words, they oughta speek it more gooder the English then the rest of we does. Pedantically yours...
