Wayne, The heater control is a double wire with a single end that hooks into the right-hand lever. You should also see two tubes just behind it in the tunnel to take these wires, and another to control the rear outlets beneath the back seat. The twin wire is the same as the super Beetle, and is greased and fed into those tubes mentioned above. At the frame rear are two rubber cones that you will have to remove while feeding the wire through. Replace them after, to seal the conduit. It's not a difficult job, but you really need to remove at least one seat to get to the area, and the carpet (rear?) as far as the tunnel. Does the e-brake stay in or not? Can't remember, but I think so.
