If the pedal is sticking, it's the pedal shaft seized.  The push-rod
isn't attached to the master cylinder; it just sits in a socket.
Remove and dismantle the pedal cluster, for a proper cure, or at
least blast some WD40 or your favourite poison to free it, then some
spray grease to lube.  I remember when you could (=did) grease the
pedal cluster ....
