When I drain the oil from a hot engine, I refill first with about two and a quarter quarts. I check it again after sitting to make sure it's all right, and the level's always o.k., but a bit low; I then top off with another quarter quart or so, and I'm left with half a bottle of oil. Of course, that one time I was in a hurry to leave on a 200 mile trip, I just dumped in the 2 & 1/2 quarts without checking. Turns out I hadn't fully warmed the engine. About an hour or so down the highway, *man* did it overheat. Frothed oil, oil light raging at idle, oil leaking out of everyplace, and even the air cleaner too hot to touch. Incredible. Yes, learning *is* so much fun... ;) -Greg A Beetle A Bus Couple of Squarebacks ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web!
