We decided to take on the job of sanding the surface rust on the 71 notch this weekend, and were wondering if our process was satisfactory. Mind you, this is not deep rust. We have one spot of bad rust on the car and are leaving that for a body professional to fix. This weekend we just want to sand the areas where the lovely California salt air has managed to create a little surface rust. We do not have any sort of power sander, just elbow grease and sand paper. Here's the steps we've thought of. 1) Sand with 40 grit sand paper 2) move on to 80 grit paper 3) move on to 100 grit paper 4) Prime with Rustoleum brand primer and then sand wit 400 grit wet paper 5) go over with a squeegee to remove any fuzz left by sandpaper Does this sound reasonable to you? Any red flags going up in your minds? We hope to start on this tomorrow (Friday), so any info is appreciated.
