On type 1s the plugs are made so that they stay together when one or both are
removed from the, inspection/adjustment, holes. The holes are both supposed
to be blocked to keep water and other road debris from getting into the drum.
There is plenty of room for brake dust to escape from the drums. Hope this
makes sense!
