I assume you are asking about the seat bottom. Starting in very late
71, there was a clear (now yellowed) release strap added to release
the rear seat bottom. This release strap came up out of the seam at
the upper rear of the cushion; there is about an inch there with no
stitches.
Your best bet is to find someone else with a 72-3 that you can
inspect VERY carefully, hopefully have side by side with your car.
Once you figure out what this strap was connected to you can reach
down through your seam and snag it with a wire hook and release the
seat.
There is, however, another possibility. I have seen the seat belts
get caught in the catch mechanism. In this case the seat is not
actually latched down, instead it is just jammed. All you need to do
to release it is to get your hand down between the seat bottom and
back until you can grab the rear edge of the seat botton firmly.
Then give it a good hard yank and it may just pop up.

In a message dated 98-08-14 12:58:48 EDT, you write:
<< I can't find the "mark" that
indicates how much oil should be there. Where is it? >>
Just had same problem the other day, spent hours and no mark. Bently says
13.5 Fl.oz, so thats what I put in, it goes up to the point where the
housing
increases in diameter. Hope this helps

Will that still fit under the stock fuel injected intake? Or does this
only work on twin carbs?

Point taken! Now does anyone have an answer to the question?

Dear Type 3ers,
This monday I will be driving down to my parents home in Indiana to
spend about a week with them. I will try to configure my Dad's
computer to check my email from there, but I don't know yet if I will
succeed. If you don't hear from me, don't worry, I'll be back soon.
If I do manage to get online from there, I still won't have most of
my references with me, so please bear with me as I will be responding
strictly from memory.
Of course I will be driving one of my Type 3s there and back.

Howdy:
Last week I sent a post about my 70' Square brakes acting up. It would
stop
OK
but no matter how hard you pressed all you would get is a sinking
pedal. I
thought
it was just brake fade from our 100 F. Texas heat.
Well, today I was installing my new rear brake drums (The originals
were
quite
marginal, got new ones that fit perfectly) and I got those on,
adjusted
the
rear
brakes and then adjusted the emergency brake ala Bentley. I got in the
car to take it for a spin and what happened? The brake pedal went
almost all
the
way to the floor and took forever to stop! And to make matters worse,
the brake warning light came on too! As I c-a-r-e-f-u-l-ly got the
Squareback put back in the garage I started checking for broken hoses,
etc. No leaks. I noticed that the brake fluid reservoir was about 1/4
of the way down.
So I remember some time ago someone had a M/C leaking fluid under
the carpet inside the car. Pulled back carpet, and what did I find?
Brake
fluid around the brake and accelerator pedals! What a mess! Got most
of it cleaned up (it seemed to soak into the tar board too) so I put a
bunch
of paper toweling between the carpet and the tar board hoping the brake
fluid will "wick" into the paper toweling.
Has this happened to anyone before? Lastly, is the correct dual
circuit master cylinder still available? The one in the Square is only
2 years old, the PO sent the paperwork with the car. Does the master
cylinder appear to be a common problem with Type 3's?
Thanks
Allen
