Hello all... Just thought I'd let you all know the progress I'm making on the 73 fastback I'm restoring to driving condition...this past weekend I was able to install the front fenders (thanks RJ L.) I cleaned up a few days ago (cleaned them, painted the insides with POR-15 chassis black, caulked the seams that usually rust first, and will soon undercoat them)...I also removed the rear fenders (easier than I thought) and will start the same process with them. I also coated the inside of the tank with fiberglass to seal it, and repaired the little rust pinholes (which, upon closer examination, were already sealed up by my application of MarHyde One-Step a few days ago). I also tapped out a few dents, found more lag screws to attach the fenders at the local hardware store (to replace the few that broke off while removing the old fenders), and removed the rear seats in preparation for reupholstery. My job this week is to finish under-protecting the rear fenders, get them back on, and start sanding/dent repairing the body in preparation for a new paint job (same color - sumatra green). This car only has 40,000 miles on it, so I have to make sure it looks that way :-) BTW, up to this point I haven't had a Bentley manual in my possession :-O I was afraid that Jim and Toby might find out, and therefore stop answering my questions, so I purchased one along with a few other small items I needed for my type 3's :-) -Doug 69 auto FI squareback (ready to accept its new engine) 73 FI fastback (in body preparation mode) 98 NB (daily driver) douglas_brashear@mail.amsinc.com ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list or mailto:help@vwtype3.org
