After 28 years it is most likely that the brake line is rusted out.  
If you pump the pedal with the carpet lifted you will probably be 
able to see where it is spraying out.  Be careful not to get an 
eyeful of brake fluid.

The MC is a piece of cake to replace; the rear line is a b***h!  I 
have replacements made of Stainless which are the right length, 
unlike all the other ones you can buy which are about 1" too short.  
Mine are expensive, however.

I also have the correct MCs.
