Sounds as if there's too much fuel there, and leaning it out is making it run faster. Maybe an air correction jet is blocked? Have you looked at the plugs recently? (I know that's not an easy thing with twin carbs!). Maybe that side is a bit sootier than the other? (though the equalising pipes transfer mixture a certain amount anyway. Is the auto-choke working OK on that carb? If it hasn't opened, that would give you an extra rich mixture.
