Hello all: As many of you know (from my frequent questions) I'm rebuilding/refurbishing an engine for my 69 squareback (which has an automatic tranny). The engine I'm working with came out of a 69 square w/ manual transmission. Anyway, which reassembling the engine a few days ago I noticed that the oil breather piece, which bolts onto the 4 studs on the right rear top of the case. The rear fan housing also bolts to this piece...on top of the alloy piece is a steel breather tin. On my square the engine had a rectangular breather tin with (maybe) 2 spring-loaded plastic caps. The one on the engine I'm redoing is oblong (ovalish, sort of eccentric) with a single, smaller black plastic cap. I have yet looked to see where the tube leading out of the engine goes, but I bet on the automatic transmission it helps the transmission determine when to switch gears (using vacuum/pressure from the engine). Are they interchangeable, or is the bigger, rectangular one *the one* to use for the autotranny? Is the alloy body the same, and its only the steel breather tin thats different? Can the steel piece be removed (i.e. can I just swap that piece)? Does anyone have a spare alloy breather piece + steel breather tin they want to part with, or lend me (until I can get the one thats on the engine currently in the square)? Many thanks in advance! -Doug 69 auto FI square 73 FI fasty 98 NB douglas_brashear@mail.amsinc.com ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
