Thanks everyone for the oil pump you've sent so far...the oil pump puller operation seemed obvious when I looked at the puller and oil pump together. After I removed the oil pump and compared it to my new one, I began pondering my next problem (which I'm hoping you'll help me solve): The pump I ordered from RMMW for this 1969 type III engine is labelled as "heavy duty" (part # 311 115 107 AHD)...anyway, I assumed I'd have to do a little clearancing of the cover plate and/or fan housing. But when I compared the pumps, there were several striking differences and unexpected similarities: - the old pump has larger holes then the new one - the gears are the same size in both the old and new pumps - if you look at the pumps from the side, the round portion that sticks into the case is not as long on the new pump - because the new pump doesn't protrude into the case as much, the engine-driven pump gear (with the slotted end) doesn't engage fully inside the engine - the old pump shows very little wear (the tops of the gears are on the same plane as the top of the pump) - the old cover plate also shows very little wear - the only difference inside between the pumps is the new one seems to have more room for oil on the open sides (to the sides of where the gears meet) despite having smaller intake/exit holes than the old one. My biggest concern is that with the new pump in the engine the slotted end of the engine-driven oil pump gear doesn't fit all the way into the indentation (in the cam?) whereas the old one does. I was considering using the old pump housing with the new gears (they're exactly the same size as the old ones). Does that sound feasable?
