How sad to hear this. But, it's all about economics. We, the car buffs, are not paying them, the salvage yards, what they want for whole cars, and/or we are not making it easy enough to get them off the lot. Space for some 1990 and later cars is worth more to them than potential sales of vintage stuff. Scrap is recycling, junkyards probably are greenwashing a little. Plus there is a certain personality type associated with junkyard employees, in the South anyway, that I am sure could care no less about how we feel about our old cars and whether they have parts for them. Junkyard owner doesn't have a point of reference that would make him realize that VW's are getting rare. (VW's are getting rare? since when? It does not occur to them. Even if they did care.) I did hear of one Chevrolet buff who had a salvage yard; he would make an effort to part out 1958-1964 chevys, particularly. People do not tend to scrap '59 vettes, but there sure were a lot of Biscaynes, El Caminos and Impalas. We need more VW guys like that. -- g-r-a-t-e-f-u-l-l-y---[ email:<fishbowl@conservatory.com> ]---l-i-v-i-n-g d-e-a-d-i-c-a-t-e-d---[ http://www.conservatory.com/ ]-----l-i-g-h-t Love the sea?
