Uhm, well, my mechanical breakdown is costing me over $600 and I can't drive my
car without the tranny so don't get too jealous!
For him:
Keep plugging away at it, you'll get it finished! Realize that the more you do
now the less you will be doing later AND the better it will be when it's finally
done. Focus on the future and not on the present (this world has far too many
"present" thinkers and not enough "forward" ones). The satisfaction of
completion is grand as well since you get full bragging rights and you can
become a great source of information on how to do some things based upon your
experiences (c'mon, what man doesn't want to be the center of expert automotive
attention? ;)
For you:
Help him get motivated. Put a little something in each of the major baggies,
like a coupon for a full body massage (a professional could do it but you and
*nothing* but a bottle of baby oil would be better ;) or his favorite meal (you
cook or a restaurant) or anything that's just for him. When the task is
completed he gets his reward. While you're working there with him purposely
distract him with a coverall slipped off the shoulder; flirt; tell him you think
he's incredibly sexy when he has oil smeared across his face and his arms
bulging when he torques a bolt sends shivers through you (damn, doesn't it feel
hot in here?); let things progress from there. (sorry, gotta open a window, it's
getting warmer in here...OK, I'm back). Use your imagination -- you know what
makes him tick best!

Okay, now that Fall is here in the "Pacific Northwet" it is getting
harder to motivate myself to go out and work on my '63 Squareback.
I need to come up with some good responses to give my husband when he
expresses concern that my car is becoming a "money pit" and even if I do
get it running again it will still be 34 years old.
Now don't get me wrong--he has been helping my with the project and
spent last weekend under the car unbolting and removing the trashed pans
while 34 year old crud and spider egg sacs fell on him. I just need to be
reminded why I am doing this and that even though right now most of the car is
in little zip lock baggies, that if I don't give up it will be up and running
someday, right?
I even envy those of you who have horrible mechanical breakdowns
because at least you are DRIVING your cars!
Please send ideas...
