Yes, the one lobe part is crutial.

Well, it is considered to be a sequential system, but you are correct
that it is not truly sequential.
#1 fires as the valve opens and #4 fires early. Firing late might
cause problems with not all the charge getting in. Firing early just
lets the back sides of the #4 and #2 intake valves run "wet," and may
be responsible for a very slight bit of roughness at idle. As of 72
(I think) the FI cam is slightly advanced so that both injectors fire
somewhat early, but #4 is, by necessity, still much earlier than #1.
This was supposed to have smoothed out the idle. I can't tell the
difference.
If you take apart the late (72-3) distributors you can see that the
FI cam is mounted in a slightly advanced position.
