Don¥t panic, aircooled VWs don¥t have head gaskets.

I would suspect that your head(s) have become loose. You should try 
to tighten them first. Unfortunately this is not a 15 min exercise.
4 bolts are accessible when taking the valve covers off. But for the 
other 4 you have to disassemble the tin on top  of the heads wich
may force you to take the engine out for better access......
