Dead on the freeway

This is a solicitation for any help\comments\suggestions to my
Squareback problem. It died on the freeway last week. Spark to the
plugs, trigger points clean--when you attempt to turn it over, it starts
to fire for a half second, then nothing no matter how long you crank. It
seems to run for that short 1/2 second on the initial squirt of fuel
from the cold start injector. Also, after pulling an injector plug and
connecting a DC voltmeter to it, then cranking the engine, I get no
reading whatsoever. Should I? Any help as always, greatly appreciated.
