Duuuude, 

Karma man!  Lesson #1 is you always help an air-cooled bud.  Maybe early panel vans are as common as milkweed pollen down under, but if I was there, I would have offered help.  Who knows, he might have had a box of rotors rattling around in there!  Of all the social groups one might choose to pursue identification with, the VW community is best in my book.  I think it's because we all understand each others problems, hehehe.    We all gotta keep the scene moving forward and closer, and that means lending a wrench to those less fortunate from time to time.
