You will normally get some clicking from the regulator, there's a couple of relays in there, after all. Are we talking clicking as in hanging up the phone or are we talking castenets? I would suggest you do some tests ala Bentley and get back to us. There's a number of things that could cause the voltage regulator to chatter, one of them being a bad ground at the hold down bolts. My regulator is very quiet, I can't recall hearing it at all with the back seat down If the pull-in and drop-out voltages are close to being correct, you probably don't have anything to worry about, but you really need to do the tests with a good voltmeter. Do the normal batttery manitenance thing, clean the terminals, etc. before you do the tests..
