The Very Big Bentley (Beetle & KG, 1961-65, almost 1,400 pages--the
"Body" section [separate from the Frame section] is longer than the entire
T3 Bentley!!!) has a procedure for installing the "Garnish Moulding":

-------------------------------------------------------------
Lay a length of cable (preferably an old electric cable with insulation,
outisde diameter about 2-3mm = 0.08"-0.12") in the channel for the garnish
moulding.

This is done by means of a piece of tube, one end of which should be
flattened. Insert the flat end into the channel and move it completely
around the windshield as shown below. The cable, passing through the tube,
is thus embedded in the channel as the tube is moved. The two ends of the
cable should meet in the middle of the upper or lower edge of the
windshield.

First push one of the two moulding halves completely into place and then
the other. Starting at the point where the cable ends meet, slowly pull
out the cable while pushing the garnish moulding into place by hand until
the operation is complete.

Install the two garnish moulding sleeves.
-------------------------------------------------------------

Note that this procedure is done with the weather strip installed on the
glass, and before the window is on the car.

It's also interesting to note that Bentley instructs us to: "Coat outside
of windshield frame with VW Window Cement D 10 all way round."

Bentley doesn't mention whether this is *easy*. ;)
