So you believe that the synthetic loosened up stuff that had
accumulated over only 10k? 10k doesn't seem like much time; is it
possible that this was stuff that weathered the rebuild and then was
left in place by the pet oil only to come loose (be loosened by?) the
synthetic? I agree that this might be possible, but if it were
typical, I think we would see a lot of complaints just like yours out
there.

Or did Amsoil admit that you should never do this in an engine
without a filter? I suppost that could be the reason that I don't
see those complaints: by far, most engines have oil filters.

I've built a number of engines and I suspect you have too. I have
never had a problem like this (knock on wood!) but I always worry
about garbage that I might have left behind in the case or oil
cooler. I spend a LOT of time with a parts cleaner flushing
everything out in every direction possible, yet it is clear that I
can never be sure that I've gotten everything. How can you be sure
that this was not just your turn for the "genie of chance to urinate
on the pillar of science"?

I believe you. I probably have some similar parts out of old engines
that I have tron down. I agree, it can be prettty appaling.
