Notchback found lost at sea

Hey Volks,

     I just got back from a 4 day work trip, sailing with the M/S
Norwegian Majesty from Miami to Cozumel.  While I was onboard, I was
wearing my Muir "engine cutaway" shirt (instead of my company shirt),
and a gentleman in line at dinner made a comment about it.  He said it
brought back memories of when he was younger, his family always had
several VW's around in various states of repair (sounds familiar?).  He
also mentioned that he still has a notchback that's just been sitting
that they would like to get rid of.  The good news, so far, is that it's
in Abilene, Texas (I think that's where he said) so it shouldn't be too
rusty.  The bad news, is that some rocket scientist modified it so that
a 40hp (with full type 1 shroud) would fit in the engine compartment.
He will be faxing me more info on the car when he returns, so I'll keep
you all (Y'all?) posted as I get more info.
     Also, for you married folks looking for a good vacation that will
please the spouse, without boring yourself with non-VW tourism, Cozumel
is loaded with NEW VW's and VW Shops.  I was fortunate enough to ride
around town with the port agent in his 1985 Beetle.  Ran a fair bit
smoother than most, does anyone know if they use a counterweighted
crankshaft?  Also, it had a nice (stock) Velour interior.  Good car,
obviously, and there were literally dozens of VW's everywhere we went,
including the water-cooled VW vans that look like the early 'bay window'
late model vans and what appeared to be a brand-new Thing.
Unfortunately, I didn't see any type III's while I was there, but maybe
I'll be able to spend more time there next time I go.
     I think congradulations are in order for all of us for the Pledges
to improve the Type III area of cyberspace.  Now, all we have to get the
pledges to Greg, and we'll be on the way.
