I use the Pertronix Ignitor in a 009 distributor. I have heard, but not confirmed, that Pertronix has a setup for the smaller T3 dizzy (or maybe it was Compufire?). The below method sounds good and if you have a stocker and want the reliability I suggest you do it. As for which is better, Compufire or Pertronix, they both do the job equally well and I think it's rather silly for people to get all bent outta shape arguing which is better. If you want to split a thick hair I feel the Pertronix is better because it uses a series of magnets to trigger the electronic unit while the Compufire uses an electronic eye. The magnets won't be affected by dust, ice or water inside the dizzy; the electronic eye can (since this stuff shouldn't be in there this probably only concerns off-roaders). If the Compufire fits as-is in a stock T3 dizzy and you don't want to cut the shaft(?) or install a smaller shaft then get it. The only people who will know what you're using is you and your T3. I haven't heard of anyone having troubles with the Compufire system to date. The unit I installed had a spacer plate, something probably needed for the ever dominate Bug, but I didn't need it in the 009. Author: type-3-errors@umich.edu at SMTPGATE Date: 5/20/97 9:02 AM Hi to you all I have installed the Pertronix unit in a T3 distributer. You need to get a rotor that has a thin shaft or alternatively you should cut the outer collar off the rotor shaft. I have done the latter and have not experieced any problems to date.
