>From: stans4@ix.netcom.com >Does anyone know for sure how much difference it makes in oil pressure/flow characteristics if you use an early, small-hole cooler on a late dual-relief case? All I've found in the scrap yards is the older coolers, most in non-salvageable condition. My current engine uses a new universal case, which, of course, has the larger cooler holes(also larger mounting stud}. It would seem to me that there would be a greater pressure drop across the older cooler with maybe lesser flow through it and corresponding higher engine temps. Anybody done any studies between the two types? The change in conductance is calculatable, but I have not done it. I believe that 1.5mm of 8mm bore is not significant compared to the restriction of about 20" of 10mm oil passages. VW seems to claim the same. That said, I always prefer to use the same size pump and cooler, and, of course, the 10 mm is better. Jim
