Well, here we go again. Firstly the empi
steering wheels, I had a couple of questions about these. I bought both
a genuine EMPI GTV steering wheel and a FLAT 4 repro EMPI GTV steering
wheel. No I am not being greedy, well yes I am but my reasoning is that
I will use the genuine article on the panel van when it is finished (ha
ha ha...) and if by some bizarre chance I get an offer when the car is
finished I will sell the unit with the Flat 4 sucker as those of you who
have seen both wheels know, the genuine article is the choice unit, it
weighs a ton but it is the wheel for me. Now next EMPI question
regarding the steering wheel with the full circle horn. I am 99% sure
that you have a genuine EMPI VDM steering wheel. Does it have a weirdo
horn button? I think that the person that asked the question will know
what I am on about. Next EMPI BRM question. I have a set of Flat 4 BRM
rep's already for the panel van, however what I want to do to them would
make Mr.Flat 4 in Japan cry so to cut a long story short, a company in
the UK, is reproducing the flat 4 BRM wheels and they are due out very
very soon (like within the week!), so I purchasing another set of BRM's
(the UK ones) for a very good price and initially I will use them on the
'S' (my beautiful Notch!), and I will be trying to push these wheels in
Australia because as far as I am aware, my Flat 4 BRM's are the only
ones in the country, cost toooooooooo much by the time they got here (my
50,000 mile all original black '56 oval cost less!!!!), so if I can make
a lot of people happy with these newer repro's I will. The thing I will
eventually do to them is bead blast all the black off of them. SOunds a
bit strange but a particular car in the UK had this done to it and I
almost got a bit excited! Now the fender beading situation in Wolfsburg.
I have never seen so much fender beading for type 3's in one spot. Wow
Wow Wow! Almost every colour was there and listed by part number. The
only colour I was interested in was black and they didn't have 1 piece
so I was a little pissed to say the least. That was one of the big
reasons I left Australia, to get little things like that for the panel
van! If anyone has a left hand side rear piece for a variant I will buy
it quaranteed you dont want a million dollars for it. Or else I might
have a little something of what you need. Yes folks, wolfsburg is the
place to go to for fender beading. As far as type 3 parts in general
goes, it is starting to look a little depressing. You will walk away
with an empty pocket but you may not find what you are looking for. I
can only recommend a holiday for you all and go yourself. You are bound
to walk away happy. Next mail I will tell a little more about the
cabriolet notch and the 4 door notch as I know a couple of you wanted
pictures and details etc.
