Well.... My names David Raistrick, and usually reside in/around Augusta, Georgia.. I'm 19 (at least until the 2nd of August...:), and have had way to many VW's in my little time of driving..(got my license only 1 month before my 18th birthday) Got a Clementine 74 Super from a friends dad, for $300....only thing it would do was idle...rebuilt the carb, and it RAN fine...but the bad T/O bearing in the clutch, and the bad synchro for 1st..(and it was an autostick, too....) anyhow!!:) Next i got a 68 bug from a friend, with an engine in pieces....tossed the 74's motor in there (after the driveplate/flywheel swap), and soon blew it up, when the front (FIF) main bearing sunk into the case, wrecking havoc upon all sorts of things (and causing a REAL BIG oil leak.......) Found a 1200 cc engine out of a 65 KG, put it in there, and drove it till the tranny died..(everything except 4th was locked up..even neutral!) But wait...thtas not quite right. I put another 2000 miles on it, with only 4th gear....then the front lower right ball joint seperated pulling into my driveway....(and proceeded to ALMOST takeout a large pine...) By this time I'd gotten my very rusty 75 Westy....the T-4 engine had holes in the heads, over #1 and #4....and some interesting marks in the pistons....(paid $74 for that bus...:) Put the 1200 in it, with some engine time modification....but, due to extreme circumstances, i'd been forced to remove (and install) the engine without aid of jacks, and ended up dropping the engine on its head once...which cracked a ring, which lead to sudden death....... JB Welded the heads and pistons, and put the T-4 backtogethor and in the bus.....and a weber progressive, and 009.....the bus made ONE trip, from that house, to my moms.....(long long story, but it got the big stuff moved.....gotta love a VW!) Anyhow, enough confusion..:) Lost the 74 and the 68 with that house (as i said, loooong story), but i've still the got the 75....great storage shed..:) Gramma gave me(!) 1500 bucks to get a car with, and i ended up with a 69 Westy from a fellow listmember (T2/Vanagon list, back when they were one..) in Columbia SC... Rusty, but excellent mechanical and interior.. Still got it, and drive it daily..:) (i got it in September, 96..) After that, i helped a friends sister pay her electric bill that month, by buying her totalled 71 squareback. $125...the car had been in a multicar pileup, and was quite beat....replaced the groundstrap, and drove it home! removed the smashed-against-the-engine rear apron/duct, and created my own (filtered!!) air intake box...ugly but effective! alas, that car is now MIA...another one of those REAL long stories... While working on the 71, my neighbor gave me her sons old 69 bug, that had been raised, but not yet cut....quite rusty, and no engine.... And right after that, i found an 81 diesel rabbit p/u....$200, running! (but needing struts, control arms, a drive shaft, and other stuff....bad collision..) The truck is sitting, waiting for me to fix it...which is beeing done as fast as i can, what with all sorts of other things going on..:) I'm getting ready to make to more purchases of VW's...one is a 65ish bus, and a few engine, and lots of other misc parts...(one of the engine is a dual carbed t-3.....complete, and told to be fresh.....but sitting 10 years..) the other purchase contains 35(!!!!) VW's....and a Morris Minor, and a Ford Courier...4 t-3's (all 68+ squares) 3 type 4 wagons, a ~82 rabbit p/u, diesel, in need of engine wiring, 5 or 6 rusty 70's rabbits, and the rest is bugs.....and LOTS of parts, for most everything... (one of the bugs, btw, is a ragtop....rusty, but complete....restorable in the right hands! (good hands though..) There. Enough VW!!!:) Non-Vw stuff about me: Currently employed at CC Tops in N. Augusta SC, installing sunroofs and lether interiors....just started, previosly delivering pizza in the project/baja Squareback...until it dissappeared, and i had to drive the bus....which i prefered NOT to do....to much hard driving for poor ol Itchigo!!:( I've done lots of things....from being a professional Photographer, (well, semi-pro, i guess....) delivery boy, caterer, alarm installer (home alarm systems...), Computer Consultant, installer for Cannon (under contract, interfacing their CLC 700 with the computer systems in Medical Photography at DDEAMC at Ft Gordan), and lots other things i cant think of... I like to know a little (or a lot!) about everything..:) Lets see....Red Cross certified lifeguard, and baby sitter..(and more i cant think of..:) Single, always looking...:) Did i mention i was a white/cherokee decent male, with long cury hair and blue eyes!?!??:) What else about me....well, more VW i guess... The first car my mom bought was a 71 Super Beetle (in 71)...Clementine... she sold it when she moved to PA, and bought a 80 Rabbit P/U, diesel....(in 79...:) Cause she needed heat..:) We still have it, along with an 81 Rabbit Diesel 2dr hatchback, an 81 sunroof 4dr diesel hatchback- partscar!, a 63 ford falcon, and an 85 Pont!!c Bonneville.... and 6 goats too....but we dont count those as transportation, often...:) (did i mention the ducks and chickens?!!!!:) alas... A brief history of what makes me me....(i wont mention the forced withdrawl (by ma...:( from highschool, or lots of other things...:( ....david...(sorry it is so long, yet covers so little!!) -- Keeper Of The Light: Pushing Back The Darkness at http://www.armory.com/~y21cvb/west/darkness.html The Turning 40 Nostalgic VW Service Tour, and Search for the Beginning of Wind http://www.armory.com/~y21cvb/charlie/charlie.html '75 Retired Westy-Canadian Model, Cody (storage shed) '69 Westy, Itchigo (New muffler!
