Way cool, congrats!!! If you carry the same philosophy for sports cars, could you find me a non-running Porsche 911 for $200? $3000 will get me a used engine and I'm off! :) Toby Erkson air_cooled_nut@pobox.com '72 VW Squareback 1.6L bored and stroked to 2.0L '75 Porsche 914 1.8L for sale Portland, Oregon http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/8501/ ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: Rejoice with me! Author: type-3-errors@umich.edu at SMTPGATE Date: 6/11/97 8:56 AM Ah, there is a heaven! For the past year I have been stalking a pre-1970 Fastback sitting in non-running condition here in Cedar City, Utah. The owner didnt want to sell.... it was granddad's, you know, and there is this sentimental attachment...besides, the owner was gonna fix it up someday...and besides.... so it went, on and on. Well, yesterday the owner agreed to sell it to me for $200 (the top money I will pay for a non-running vehicle). The body is fine (no rust, needs paint) and the interior is in very good shape... not even any rips in the headliner!. The car has an auto tranny (which is great! the car will be for my wife), FI, and....most important... is complete with all the light lenses and other amenities in excellent shape. The engine? Doesn't matter, for I have a good mothballed one sitting on the floor of my garage just waiting. And two spare automatic transmissions also. In short, it is an excellent restro project (groan...as tho I need one more VW to work on....). Anyway, my wife is thrilled to know she will have a Fastback with automatic and I am thrilled, tightwad that I am, to have gotten the vehicle for my usual miserly, cheapskate $200. Took a year, but.... Hope you will rejoice with my wife and me for the happiness that comes with preserving and enjoying one of these neat cars. Phil dillard@suu.edu
