Fastback marketing

     >>Speaking of the Fastback intro in '66, I've always wondered what was
     >>the marketing purpose of the Fastback? Volkswagen already had a
     >>2-door coupe (Notchback) and a wagon (Squareback/Bus). Why not just
     >>continue producing Notchbacks along with introducing them into the
     >>U.S. market?

     >>Bye,
     >>Everett Barnes

Everett - It is obvious that the Fastback was marketed as a high
performance sports car! The aerodynamic shape makes it much faster
that the Square or Notch. Besides, if you squint (and you haven't had
your coffee) it looks exactly like a Porsche 911!

     Cheers,
