Just a question: Are these any different fron the 12 V Solex chokes found on Beetles, M-B, BMW, Porsche...? In other words it seems possible to me that Solex only made two of these units: 6V and 12V. Or were there more. >> Jim, Unfortunately, the choke units on the dual carbs are a different size then the ones on the beetle single carbs. I have quite a few different beetle carbs and none of the units seem to fit the duals (both bus and type 3). I am running one choke on my '67 square from a bus carb, so this interchange works (in fact, the rebuild kits I bought for these carbs are made to rebuild either the bus or type 3 carbs...with directions for both). Not sure about other interchange with other German cars....I'm mostly just a VW kind of guy :-) BTW, the fuel gage senders for the 6v and 12v are interchangeable. I've been running the 6v sender from my '64 notch in the '67 square for almost 2 years with no problems. The gages themselves won't interchange, but the senders are identical inside...you just have to learn to ignore the "6V" printed on the top of the sender :-) Mike PS: The type 3 fuel senders seem to fail due to the a loose thru rivet connection at the spade terminal on top. Many can be brought back to life by carefully "swaging" over the rivet while supporting the opposite rivet end (the float tube casing must be removed and you must be careful not to break the wires). I've brought 3 units back to life this way, with only one broken wire casualty :-)
