I am in a little bit of a dilema. My wife and I own a '71 squareback which was her first car back before we were married. It was a great car - 37mpg on the interstate, a real runner. Two years ago it met with the rear end of Chevrolier (Chevy Cavalier) causing much grief to the square's front end [and us :-( ]. My wife loves the car and so do I, so we decided to do a COMPLETE restoration. Unfortunately, I did not do my homework before starting this project and now I am faced with a decision. I separated the body from the pan, welded on a new front end from a really dead donor car, and started work on the chassis . . . . Hmmm lets see, could really use some new floorpans, gee where can I get floorpans? Front beam needs rebuilding, where can I get the bushings, bearings, gaskets, etc.? I have located most everything else I need to complete the restoration, WCM, Rocky Mountain, and my local shop can supply the other items. I am stumped on the front end parts and a source for the floorpans. Anybody out there know of a source? If a source can't be found I guess I would be inclined to part the car out to anybody interested. I have everything a squareback should have - 4 good fenders, seats, gauges, all engine components, tranny, roof rack, frnt bumper, etc... So the real question is: Will I be able to complete the restoration or should I call it quits? P.S. I found some fiberglass pans but a friend of mine says he will kill me if I put them in a VW - they are just not the way things should be done. Thanks for any info.
